Warning: very confused but pretty excited post.
My young man's birthday is coming up, which is very exciting because I get to give him a present!
I LOVE PRESENTS!!!!!!!
I love getting them, I love unwrapping them and I love the nice cuddly feeling I get when I think "you thought of me!!!". I also love picking them out, figuring out how to present them, giving them, and watching the faces of those I give them to.
It's a very happy affair.
Unfortunately, I usually have no idea of what to give boys. I mean, I'm clearly not a boy, and am therefore unsure of what they desire. I could get them games, but the ones they want are not out till like, September (I'm referring to GTA V, by the way). I could get clothes, but I'm not really sure if it'll be to their taste.
Anyways, when I ask boys what they want, they generally do this non-committal-shrug-thing and are all "err idk....... ya". This is very daunting.
However, as my young man is jetting off to Europe for exchange in August, I get to build his present around a theme! WHICH MAKES THIS YEAR SO MUCH EASIER THAN LAST YEAR!
(Please pardon the exclamation marks; I'm very excited about this.)
I've decided to make him a Bye Bye Box, full of stuff that he can bring on his trip.
The Bye Bye Box will contain:
1. A scarf that I am knitting him;
2. A metal tumbler (which he will probably lose);
3. A little portable bottle opener keychain that I need to start hunting for;
4. A luggage tag; and
5. A reminder to return safely or else I will eviscerate him.
I'm most excited about the scarf!!
This is the unfinished scarf. I knitted it from an alpaca wool blend, because it felt the softest out of all the yarn available at Spotlight.
If you want to learn how to knit, this website is pretty clear.
I learned how to knit when I was in Secondary 1 or 2, and some of my classmates used to laugh at how I was an old lady (all in good fun, though). I lost my knitting needles when I moved house, but decided to go out and get a whole new kit (knitting needles, a crochet hook, and yarn needles) for this project. I favour circular knitting needles (those that are attached to each other by a loop at the back) so that the knitted piece doesn't slide right off the end of the needles. When buying yarn, always check that you have the appropriately-sized knitting needles. Thicker yarn would require thicker needles, and vice versa.

Handmade gifts are the most fun to give, and are pretty heartwarming to receive. Plus, doing handicrafts is a very soothing exercise. I went to a girls' primary school, and they taught all of us how to embroider (complete with embroidery hoop). BEST. EVER.
Some girls were like omg ew this sucks and others were like hello are you typecasting us????? but I love all these Martha-Stewart-esque projects because I feel really happy whenever I finish a project and it looks good.
Also, people are occasionally impressed when they discover my Ultra Secret Knitting Abilities.
This post isn't really about anything. I'm sorry. I just felt like I had to share my excitement over the knitted scarf with the world.
V EXCITED YAY

Addendum: Did not have the time to consult a thesaurus regarding the variants of the word "excite". I apologise for the way my vocabulary has regressed to a level befitting an extremely ditzy fifteen year old girl.
